What a great discussion -- informed, direct, personal and edifying, thanks!

I never thought, that just two hands could do full justice to Die Kunst der Fuge, preferring orchestral editions, although there are a lot of keyboard performances, that I love. Until I discovered the mind-blowing rendition by Ensemble Wolfgang von Karajan, recorded by André Charlin in 1963. But then you have three chamber organs and hear things you've never heard before. I don't know if we ever touch that performance, suspecting a gargantuan task, involving the profound commentaries of its artistic director Carl de Nys, but will humbly retain hope, that one day we might.
