I notice the first three examples (WTC fugue, 2-part Invention, A-minor VN finale) are in the relative key -- iow, JSB doesn't use PHI to restate the Tonic, nor Dominant. Not sure what it means, other than being a pattern. It sounds like all today's examples modulate at PHI, and -- not having scores in front of me nor do I have perfect pitch -- possibly all these modulations are to the relative mode? E.g., does Confiteor move to A-maj, and WTC fugue 24 to D-major?
Also, wrt to last week, I like your interpretation of the "God ALONE" chorale being set "on high" by itself ...
